Zero waste – Why adopt washable cotton?

A real must in the Zero Waste lifestyle, washable cotton has become a must in bathrooms. Popular, who has never heard of it? However, some questions persist: at what point in your beauty routine should you use it? Are they economical? How to take care of them so that they last?

In this article, we answer all these questions, and more… At the end of this post, we are sure, these washable squares will become your beauty essentials 🤗!

Washable cotton – What is it?

Let's start with the basics, what is a washable cotton? We are used to single-use cotton that we throw in the trash after each use. Washable cotton is THE zero waste solution to this product.

It is a small square of fabric, often made of vegetable fibers, which fulfills the same functions as conventional cotton. Ultra-practical, this fabric can be washed in the washing machine to be reused over and over again (or almost….). Exit the trash box after removing your eye makeup!

Washable cotton – Economical and ecological

Washable make-up remover cotton is a beauty essential for anyone who wants to act in favor of the environment 🌿. Free of any plastic packaging and not being disposable, it does not create additional waste.

In addition to being more environmentally friendly, washable cotton pads are economical 💸. On average, according to consoglobe, a woman uses 6 cotton pads per day. This therefore makes 180 cottons per month, i.e. an annual budget between 30 and 40€. Over 5 years, this represents a budget of €150.

Conversely, a washable make-up remover wipe is used more than 300 times 🤩. A washable cotton (around €2 per unit) can therefore last a year. Over 5 years, the cotton budget will be €10 (well, in reality we shoot with at least 10 cottons, so you have to count on a budget of €20). Incredible the difference, isn't it?

Washable cotton – For what use?

Like traditional cotton, washable cotton can be used for many things. It will be the ally of several beauty gestures such as make-up removal or the application of your floral lotion 🌸.

You can either use it in combination with micellar water to remove make-up from the skin, or pass the washable make-up remover cotton over your face after removing make-up with oil. It will then absorb and remove the excess fat. It facilitates the rinsing of the oil and helps to remove resistant and very encrusted make-up.

Another advantage of the washable cotton square, it is perfect for applying your floral lotion. Generally soft and pleasant, it applies your facial care gently and offers you a massage of the epidermis for a moment of guaranteed relaxation 😍. The routine then becomes a moment of pleasure that is as good for the skin as it is for morals.. Suffice to say that after a hard day, we all dream of a moment just for ourselves, cocooning and relaxing 🥰 .

Washable cotton and nail polish – Does it match?

Many people use disposable cotton pads to remove their nail polish. For washable cottons, there are two schools:

  • Those who don't find it practical because the varnish dries and becomes rigid when it dries on the cotton. It stains and damages the fabric.
  • Those who, like me, choose to sacrifice 1 or 2 cotton pads which will be destined all their life to remove varnish. Indeed, the cotton is stained and becomes rigid when the varnish dries on it.However, as soon as I put solvent on it, it "softens" and can be reused. Personally, this is the option I choose to avoid disposable cottons.

As a tip, I advise you to take washable cotton pads that are reaching the end of their life. The sacrifice will be less difficult 👌🏼!

Washable make-up remover cotton – Which material to choose?

On the internet, you can find everything! There are plenty of washable cotton materials. We find in particular bamboo, organic cotton, microfiber…. But among all these materials, which one to choose 😰?

Le Petit Carré Français washable organic cotton scarf: Organic cotton grips materials such as make-up remover oil well. It is ideal for removing waterproof makeup. Its lightly looped fabric offers very light exfoliation.

Fibao bamboo washable cotton : Bamboo fiber is slightly thicker. Gentle, it deeply cleans combination and oily skin. It is soft and pleasant to use.

Lamazuna microfiber washable cotton : This material is ideal if you want to remove make-up with water. Just soak it and remove makeup from your face. It is suitable for sensitive skin.

The Le Petit Carré Français mikee washable cotton wipe : Ultra-soft, this washable cotton is 100% cocooning. It is suitable for the most sensitive skin and is ideal for applying tonic lotions or moisturizers.

Washable cotton – How many should you have in your bathroom?

To be quiet and have a good "roll" it is best to start with a dozen cotton balls. It allows you to have 2 a day without having to run to your washing machine every 2 days. Depending on your consumption, you will see if this number suits you or if you need more 😉.

Washable cotton – How to maintain them?

Washable cotton is very easy to use and keep! Simply rinse with water or cleanser after each use to prevent stains from settling. You can then wash them in the washing machine once a week 🧺

The make-up remover wipes can be washed at 30 or 40°. According to the wipe, it is necessary to pay attention to the conditions indicated on the site of the mark because some do not support the soupline. Avoid washing your white wipes with colored laundry to keep them as beautiful and clean as possible ✨

To wash them, we strongly recommend that you use a washing net so as not to lose the cotton in the multitude of clothes.

As for drying, to prevent them from shrinking, we forget the dryer and let them air dry.

The make-up remover wipe no longer holds any secrets for you 🤫! And if, however, questions persist, do not hesitate to entrust them to us so that we can answer them ☺️
