Vegan, Organic, Natural, what are the differences?

Lost between the terms vegan, organic, and natural? This article will help you!

Who says vegan, does not say exclusively natural and organic and what is natural does not necessarily come from organic farming. Are you lost? Do not panic, this article will guide you. We will indeed explain the differences between vegan, organic and natural products to help you in your cosmetic purchases.

A vegan product is a product that does not contain any ingredient of animal origin, whether or not it has caused the suffering and death of the animal in question. Thus, this product is exclusively composed of ingredients of vegetable or synthetic origin. However, vegan does not always mean crueltyfree for some brands, although it may seem very strange. Indeed, it happens that some products are vegan in their composition while being tested on animals. However, have no fear, all the cosmetics sold on our e-shop are indeed vegan AND crueltyfree since they are all carefully selected by the managers of the shop.

When a product is said to be organic, it has been labeled by an approved body. The latter guarantees a certain percentage of ingredients of organic and vegetable origin in the product in question. There are many certifications on the market. We find for example the labels Nature & Progrès, Cosmébio, AB, etc. Some are stricter than others. Thus, even if a product is labeled organic, it may also contain synthetic ingredients or ingredients of animal origin.

If at the moment the terms vegan and organic you seem clearer, most confusion is caused by the term natural. Indeed, companies use and abuse this term to give the impression to their customers that they are selling a natural product, whereas generally this product contains only one ingredient of natural origin and this last often happens at the end of the composition (which means that this ingredient is present in a tiny quantity in the product). These companies often demonstrate greenwashing, a concept according to which a company gives itself the image of an eco-responsible company through advertising and marketing.
